Global Peace Summit 2023 and Community Engagement
The Global Peace Summit convened in Vancouver, Canada on September 24th and 25th of this year brought together world-renowned leaders and experts from the fields of politics, economics, diplomacy, religion and non-violence to discuss ways to promote global peace. Participants at the summit aimed to find innovative and grassroots solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the world today such as climate change and terrorism.
The Peace Summit was founded by Dr. Denis O’Brien, who is also CEO of The Peace Tower Foundation. Dr. O’Brien has stated that his motivation for hosting the summit was “to create an event where people from all walks of life can come together with a common goal: making peace a reality in our lifetime.”
One way the Peace Summit 2023 hopes to achieve this is by engaging communities around the world. One example of this is their partnership with Youth For World Peace (YFP), a non-profit organization that helps young people develop leadership skills and learn about peaceful conflict resolution. YFP’s Director, Sarah Lamb said “This partnership will give our students an amazing opportunity to be directly involved in creating global peace through their activism work”.

Additionally, there will be a series of interactive panel discussions on topics such as populism and its impact on peacebuilding, renewable energy and climate change mitigation, tech startups in conflict zones, youth mobilization in fragile states, and more.

Humanitarian Affairs and World Peace Summit
On September 17th and 18th, the United Nations will be hosting its largest event ever – The Humanitarian Affairs and World Peace Summit. This summit is designed to discuss ways to improve global peace and humanitarian assistance. Over 1,000 world leaders are expected to attend the summit, which is expected to last for two days.
The summit has a number of main aims. The first is to work on improving global coordination in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Another aim is to find ways to reduce conflict and increase cooperation between different stakeholders. Finally, the summit will attempt to establish new norms and standards in humanitarian action.
There are a number of ways that the UN hopes the summit will achieve these goals. One way is through the establishment of a new global coordinating body for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief known as the Global Facility for Humanitarian Response (GFHR). This body will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of international response from funding to field operations. The GFHR was created after an extensive review of existing systems found that they were not effective at coordinating effectively across different parts of the world.
In addition to the GFHR, another important initiative is the creation of a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration which seeks to address key migration issues including irregular migration, trafficking and racism. The compact was developed in consultation with over 100 experts from around the world and reflects international consensus on how best to address these issues.

United Nations Global impact and World peace
The United Nations has been a driving force for global peace since its establishment in 1945. The organization has made significant strides in addressing conflict and initiating treaties to prevent future wars. With the world population growing increasingly diverse, the UN is also working to promote cultural understanding and build relationships between different countries.
The UN’s work on global peace has had a measurable impact. Since 1945, the number of wars has decreased by two-thirds, and the number of casualties has decreased by half. The UN also spearheaded the creation of the International Criminal Court, which aims to prosecute individuals for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Despite these successes, there is still much work to be done. The UN faces considerable challenges in addressing human rights abuses, poverty, inequality, and climate change. To maintain global peace, it will continue to make progress on these issues as well as others.
